One Verse at at Time
Are you able to study the Bible every day? Do you have times when You do well at being in the Word and then you fall off the wagon and its weeks before you pick it up again? You are not alone. We all falter. Here’s how I cope.

We know we should read the scriptures every day. Preferrable in the morning. Before we do anything else. Or so they say…
I don’t know about you, but I usually hit the ground running in the morning. And as for getting up an hour earlier than I must… I fall asleep trying to read one verse. In the morning doesn’t work for me. Late at night doesn’t cut it either. So, what can we do? How do we make time for Jesus during our crazy day.
I am in a season where Bible study is very limited for me. I don’t have the energy. I don’t have the time. I don’t have the “get up and go.” I love the Lord. I want to do the right thing and be close to Him by studying his words, but there are days that I just can’t.
One thing I have found that I can do is copy scripture. Now, I’m to the point that I have committed to writing the entire New Testament! But that is not where I started. I bought a special notebook, I bought a pen I really liked, and I started with one book. I didn’t commit to a chapter a day. I didn’t even commit to a set number of verses in one day.
I wrote what I could. Sometimes it was a whole chapter. Sometimes it was only one verse. But I made the effort to write that one verse, if that was all the time I could commit to doing so. And I found that as I wrote the scriptures, they began speaking to me like I never heard them before.
Just writing when I could find the time every day, I have now entered the book of Romans. I have written all four gospels and the book of Acts! Who would have ever thought I could?
I don’t write it pretty. I don’t write it for anyone else to see. I write it for me. Truthfully, I’ve been in the book of Romans for some time now because I am keeping this blog, writing a book, working in my own business, and a dozen other things that are going on right now. But I take one verse at a time and if I can I write two, or ten, or a whole chapter. But I don’t put any pressure on myself to “get it done.”
I understand there are women of God out there that write the whole Bible. It has become a hobby for them, and they make beautiful copies of the Word of God!
Me. I’m just writing to get to know God better. I’m just writing because some days, it’s all I can do in spending time with the Lord.
Give it a try. And don’t punish yourself if you try it and don’t like it. What helps me might not help you. What helps you might not help me. But we are not alone. We are in this together. And you will find something that works for you. It may take time. It may take work. But it’s out there. And maybe we can find it together.
